About
Disha Prajapati (b. 2000, Gujarat, India; lives and works in Los Angeles, CA) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, installation, sound, and performance. Born into the nomadic Rabari community of Kutch in the western deserts where she was raised, Prajapati draws from her ancestral lineage and matriarchal heritage to explore themes of migration, labor, feminine agency, and belonging. Her work often incorporates cultural symbology and storytelling traditions rooted in the lives of Rabari women, reimagined through cut-out canvas, found objects, and multisensory installation.
She earned her BFA in Filmmaking with a focus on directing and screenwriting—a foundation that informs her narrative approach across mediums. Her paintings unfold like visual myths, shaped by both personal memory and collective histories.
Prajapati’s work has been exhibited at SPRING/BREAK Art Show, New York, NY (2025); Adidas Studio, Los Angeles, CA (2025); and she was an artist-in-residence at Andrea Zittel’s High Desert Test Sites (2024). She currently works as an art therapist with neurodivergent communities while continuing to develop her studio practice.
She is based in Los Angeles and is preparing for upcoming exhibitions and collaborations across the U.S.
